RCCG Rejects Claims Adeboye Campaigned for Government, Reaffirms Political Neutrality

The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has strongly denied allegations that its General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, endorsed or campaigned for any government in power.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the church maintained that Adeboye has consistently remained neutral in partisan politics and has never instructed members to support any political party or candidate.

Church Reaffirms Adeboye’s Political Neutrality

According to the statement, Pastor Adeboye’s position has always been centered on encouraging citizens to participate in the democratic process without influencing their political choices.

The church explained that the respected cleric regularly advises members to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and actively participate in elections by voting according to their convictions.

RCCG stressed that promoting civic responsibility should not be mistaken for political endorsement.

RCCG Addresses Protest Controversy

The church also responded to claims that Pastor Adeboye personally called off a planned protest.

According to RCCG, the cleric merely relayed a directive from the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) concerning changes to a previously scheduled three-day prayer programme and rally.

The statement clarified that the instruction originated from PFN leadership and was communicated to churches affiliated with the fellowship across Nigeria.

RCCG noted that the decision involved holding the grand finale of the prayer programme at a central venue, followed by a rally around the location.

Adeboye Has Spoken on National Issues, Says Church

The church further rejected accusations that Pastor Adeboye remains silent on critical national matters.

It stated that the cleric has repeatedly addressed issues affecting Nigeria, including insecurity, corruption, economic challenges, governance, elections and leadership.

According to RCCG, Adeboye’s approach has traditionally focused on prayer, moral guidance and spiritual counsel rather than direct political confrontation.

RCCG Warns Against Spreading False Narratives

The church concluded by cautioning against the circulation of what it described as misleading and inaccurate narratives regarding its leader.

RCCG insisted that Pastor Adeboye’s public record speaks for itself and emphasized that neither the church nor its General Overseer should be judged based on misinformation.

The statement reaffirmed the church’s commitment to truth, responsible citizenship and spiritual leadership while distancing itself from partisan political activities.

Growing Public Debate

The clarification comes amid increasing public discussions about the role of religious leaders in politics and governance.

Observers continue to debate the extent to which influential faith leaders should engage in political conversations, especially during periods of national tension and electoral activity.

For RCCG, however, the message remains clear: Pastor Adeboye’s role is to provide spiritual leadership while encouraging members to make their own political decisions.
