2027: Oborevwori Confident Peter Obi Won’t Repeat Delta Victory
Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has expressed confidence that former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi will not replicate his 2023 electoral success in the state during the 2027 general elections.
The governor made the remarks during an interview on Arise Television, where he discussed political developments in Delta State and the evolving support base of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Governor Reflects on 2023 Election Outcome
Oborevwori acknowledged that Obi performed strongly in Delta during the 2023 presidential election but argued that the political circumstances that contributed to that outcome have since changed.
According to the governor, support from sections of the Christian community and non-indigenous residents played a significant role in the Labour Party candidate’s victory at the time.
He, however, maintained that his administration has strengthened relationships with key groups across the state, including the Igbo community, which he believes will influence future voting patterns.
Confidence in Relationship With Igbo Community
The governor stated that the Igbo community in Delta State has maintained a positive working relationship with his administration and has continued to support efforts aimed at the state’s development.
Oborevwori expressed confidence that many voters within the community would back the APC in future elections, noting that their relationship with his government remains strong.
He also stressed that political loyalty in future elections would be driven more by party support than individual candidates.
Religious Leaders Remain Key Stakeholders
Speaking further, the governor referenced consultations with religious leaders before his political transition to the APC.
According to him, faith leaders offered prayers and support during the process, a development he believes strengthens the party’s position ahead of future electoral contests.
Oborevwori suggested that these religious stakeholders would continue to play a supportive role as political activities gradually build toward the next election cycle.
APC Eyes Stronger Position in Delta
The governor reiterated his belief that the APC is well-positioned to gain broader acceptance across Delta State before the 2027 elections.
He argued that political alliances, community engagement and ongoing governance efforts have helped reshape the state’s political landscape since the last presidential election.
While political analysts believe the 2027 race remains highly unpredictable, Oborevwori remains convinced that the factors behind Peter Obi’s previous success in Delta have significantly changed.
