Security Agencies Launch Rescue Mission After 15 Passengers Abducted on Calabar–Oron Waterway

Security operatives in Nigeria have initiated a large-scale rescue mission after 15 passengers were abducted by armed attackers along the Calabar–Oron waterway.

The incident reportedly occurred when suspected gunmen intercepted a commercial passenger boat navigating the busy route, forcing passengers into captivity. The Calabar–Oron waterway is a major transport corridor connecting parts of Cross River and Akwa Ibom states, making the attack particularly concerning for commuters.

Authorities confirmed that a coordinated effort involving multiple security agencies is currently underway to ensure the safe return of the victims and bring the perpetrators to justice.

Spokesperson of the Cross River State Police Command, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, stated that law enforcement agencies are actively tracking the suspects and intensifying surveillance operations across surrounding waterways and coastal communities.

Security officials have also reassured the public of their commitment to restoring safety along the route, urging residents and travelers to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.
