Abia Government Raises Alarm Over Alleged Plot to Sponsor Protest Against Governor Otti
The Abia State Government has raised concerns over an alleged plan by certain political actors to sponsor a protest aimed at destabilizing the administration of Governor Alex Otti.
In a statement released on Friday, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, revealed that intelligence reports suggest that some individuals are mobilizing groups from Aba and neighboring states to stage a protest.
According to the statement, the planned protest is reportedly tagged “Tinubu Dey Work, Otti Dey Chop”, a slogan the government described as misleading and intended to spread false narratives about ongoing projects in the state.
The government clarified that claims suggesting that federal funds are being used for state projects are inaccurate, noting that such refunds have already been discontinued.
Ekeoma further warned that the alleged protest could escalate into violence if not properly managed. He stated that there are concerns the protest may lead to clashes between demonstrators and security operatives, particularly members of the State Task Force in Aba.
“The alleged plot is designed to trigger confrontation, which could result in loss of lives and breakdown of law and order,” the statement said.
The government also suggested that such actions may be politically motivated, especially as preparations for the 2027 general elections gradually begin.
While reaffirming its commitment to democratic principles and tolerance of opposition, the Abia State Government stressed that it would take firm action against anyone attempting to disrupt public peace under the guise of political protest.
Residents were urged to remain law-abiding, while parents and guardians were advised to caution their children against participating in activities that could endanger their safety.
The government assured citizens that it remains dedicated to maintaining peace, security, and a stable political environment across the state.
