Victor Osimhen Injury Update: Galatasaray Star May Undergo Surgery After Arm Fracture vs Liverpool
Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen could face surgery after suffering a serious arm fracture during his side’s 4-0 defeat to Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 second leg.
The Nigerian forward sustained the injury early in the match following a heavy collision with Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konaté during an aerial challenge. Konaté landed awkwardly on Osimhen’s arm, leaving the striker in visible pain.
Despite the injury, Osimhen continued playing through the first half with his forearm heavily bandaged before being substituted at the start of the second half as a precaution.
In an official statement released on Thursday, Galatasaray confirmed that medical examinations conducted after the match revealed a fracture in Osimhen’s right forearm.
The club stated that his arm has been placed in a cast, and a final decision regarding surgery will be made after further medical evaluations in the coming days.
The statement read:
“In the first half of our away match against Liverpool in the Champions League Round of 16 second leg, our player Victor Osimhen took a blow to his arm and completed the first half. However, following checks at halftime, he was not played in the second half due to the risk of a fracture.
After the match, hospital examinations confirmed a fracture in his right forearm, and it has been placed in a cast. A decision regarding surgery will be made after further evaluations.”
Meanwhile, Osimhen’s replacement, Noa Lang, also suffered an injury during the match, sustaining a deep cut to his right thumb. Unlike Osimhen, Lang is expected to undergo surgery in Liverpool before returning to Turkey.
Before the injury setback, Osimhen had been in outstanding form for Galatasaray in the Champions League, registering seven goals and three assists in 10 appearances, along with four Man of the Match awards.
His potential absence could be a major blow for the Turkish club as they look ahead to the remainder of the season.
